Idomoo's rendering technology is blazing fast, reaching up to x100 real time, able to generate millions of videos an hour, and serve videos to customers in under 5 seconds using our LivePV technology.
If render time is important for your project, read further for some tips.

Speed Things Up in After Effects

When render time is a priority there are several things you can do to make sure your videos are as fast as they can be:

  • Static comps slow the render down. Having fewer static comps creates a faster render. This means that even though you're allowed up to three static comps per scene comp, you should strive to use one or less. How? Here are a few ideas:
    • If you have two static comps with no placeholder layers between them, that means you should pre compose them into a single comp.
    • If your static comp is a flat color, like a white background, replace it with a solid color placeholder layer.
    • If your placeholder layers are filling your whole screen, why do you have a static background comp? You don't always have to have one. If you don't have one the background will be black if seen.
  • Large files take longer to process. If your placeholders are using large resolution images or videos, and are then scaled down by a lot for the whole duration, it will save render time to scale down the images prior to using them in a placeholder where scaling is closer to 100%.
  • Longer videos will take longer time to render. Can you shave off any time from the overall video duration?
  • Blurand features that use blurring are slower to render, this means:
    • IDM Gaussian Blur
    • Motion blur
    • Vector mask feathering and expansion

Of course, all these features are available so you can use them, but if speed is essential, use them less.

Speed Things Up During Setup

Once your IDMs are nice and lean, there are also things you can do while setting up your project for rendering:

  • The HLS video format was designed for streaming. It means the video starts to play before it finished rendering. Use HLS instead of MP4 for real-time or speedy delivery projects.
If you are concerned about the ability to share videos don't be. You should still use the HLS video format as that will always render faster. Once the render has finished, an MP4 will also be available for sharing. The MP4 will have the same filename, just with the mp4 file extension.
  • End-points. Send API call to the end-point in your region. There are two regions: US and Europe. read more about that on the API documentation here.
  • Assets. If using a Storyboard, try to upload your assets to our server and use our mapping feature for dynamic videos and images. Links which are external to Idomoo platform makes us first fetch them over the internet and only then use them. Fetching files, especially large files such as video, take times, but if the files are already on our serves, that time is spared. Keeping files on an S3 storage is as quick as uploading to our servers. Learn about managing media here and about mapping here.
  • Firewalls. API Calls can have limited bandwidth or even be blocked from offices with firewall security or upload / download limitations. Make sure you are not behind such limitations.
