With transcripts, you can access the video information even if you can't see or hear the video.

The transcript gives a written description for what's on your video - from what is shown to what is said. Screen readers can also use the transcript file to read the content to a user. Transcripts allow your video to comply with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

Add a New Transcript

Your video should have descriptions for each scene in your video. Add a new transcript for every scene in your storyboard. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Storyboard, and click on a scene.
  2. Click the Transcript button located bottom right of your screen.

Select a Language

You can select the language needed for your transcript. When your video needs multiple languages, a different transcript will be needed for each language. Follow these steps:

  1. Click Select Language. Click your language from the dropdown menu.
Note: If your language is not listed, use your keyboard and enter in a two letter abbreviation as needed.
  2. After you select a language, your Storyboard will display the language you selected next to the Transcript button.

Use the Text Editor

In the text box, you can enter in text as needed to set up your transcript. See the Idomoo Recommends section below for best practices. You can use text formatting to help organize your layout. Any formatting will not be in the output. Your transcript will be text only.

Click the dialog boxes to format your text as needed. You can use the following formatting:

  • Heading
  • Bold
  • Italics
  • Underline

Add a Placeholder

When setting up your transcript, you can add a placeholder to designate the changing content. For example, a text placeholder that has combinations of static text and parameter driven text is resolved and the result is used here.

  1. Move the cursor to the desired location.
  2. Click Placeholders and select a placeholder.
  3. When you are done editing and adding placeholders, click OK to complete this scene's transcript.

Edit the Transcript

You can return to the transcript and edit as needed.

  1. Go to your Storyboard.
  2. Click to select a scene.
  3. Click the language button to open the transcript.
Note: You can only open one language at a time.
  4. Make any edits as needed.
  5. Click OK.

Idomoo Recommends

  • Describe the on screen text first before narration.
  • Use speaker's names.
  • Describe all speech content. If there is speech that is not relevant, show that it has been excluded, e.g. "[participants discuss the weather while presenter returns]".
  • Relevant information about the speech, use square brackets, e.g. "this is great! [shouted]."
  • Relevant non-speech audio, e.g. "[apple falls and rolls on the ground]". Non-relevant background noise can usually be left out of the transcript.

Here's an example of what the text setup may look like:

On Screen: a question and two buttons appear.
Narrator: Hello <<PLACEHOLDER1>> choose coffee or tea.

[music]

On Screen: a line of text.
Narrator: Thank you.

[exit music]
